Mr. Richard Patchen founded Carlile Patchen & Murphy LLP in March of 1967 when Denis Murphy joined him in the practice. He has practiced as an assistant attorney general and an associate in a Columbus business law firm before founding his own practice.

Richard concentrated his practice in the representation of privately-owned businesses in the areas of business law, estate planning, tax and real estate. He retired as a partner in 2007, but continues his relationship with the firm as counsel.

Professional Association and Memberships

Richard is a member of the Columbus Bar Foundation, a Fellow of the Ohio State Bar Association, and a member of the American Bar Association.

Professional Recognitions

Richard has served on the Board of Governors of and as counsel for the Columbus Bar Association, member and chair of the Board of Bar Examiners for the Ohio Supreme Court, along with many other honors and offices.

He has received the Martindale-Hubbell rating of AV® Preeminent™.*

Education

Richard earned his BA degree from the Franciscan University of Steubenville, cum laude, and law degree from Ohio State University in 1959 where he was a member of the editorial board of the Ohio State Law Journal.

Personal Interests

Richard’s present practice activity is limited by tennis, skiing, travel and family activities.
