Brigid Heid Inducted as Fellow to Litigation Counsel of America

Brigid Heid was recently inducted as a Fellow into the Litigation Counsel of America,
an honorary society for lawyers whose invitation-only membership is restricted to
one-half of one percent of American lawyers. Evaluation for fellowship is based on
the effectiveness and accomplishment of the attorney in trial work along with their ethical reputation. Brigid’s trial work is focused on representing businesses in employment-related disputes.

Megan Boiarsky addressed the Columbus Bar Association's Government Agencies Committee meeting to discuss the transition from the public sector to private firm life. Megan, who joined the firm in November 2009, came from the state Attorney General's office to join CPM's Employment Law group.

Congratulations to Brigid Heid, who was interviewed for the March 2010 issue of Columbus C.E.O. in an article titled "Electronic Overload" about employees suing employers for unpaid overtime for working remotely using smartphones and laptops. In the interview, Brigid explains the Department of Labor can require unpaid overtime be paid for the past two to three years. Heid helped a client set up internal procedures to address the issue of employees working remotely.  Now, during annual training the client has employees sign a statement acknowledging they have been paid for all the hours worked, so late claims don't come trickling in years later.

Carlile's Director of Government Relations Receives Appointment

Congratulations to Dennis Stapleton, Director of Government Relations for CPM Government Relations LTD, who was appointed to the Insurance Industry Advisory Board by the Ohio Department of Development. Along with 25 other members, Dennis helped create an economic development tool called the "Ohio Insurance Industry Strategic Plan" for the Office of Insurance and Financial Development. This Ohio Department of Development office will be implementing the forward-thinking initiatives outlined in the plan to create more insurance jobs in Ohio.
