About:

Jane Higgins Marx joined Carlile Patchen & Murphy LLP in August 2000 and practices estate and business planning, probate, probate litigation, business succession planning, and elder law. Jane counsels individuals, business owners, executives, and caregivers through estate planning, estate and gift taxation, income taxation of trusts and estates, charitable giving, business succession, and probate matters. She provides comprehensive planning for disability in her practice, including counseling on special needs and elder law issues. Jane assists executors, trustees, guardians, and other fiduciaries in complying with various legal and fiduciary responsibilities. Jane is CPM’s Managing Partner and past chair of CPM’s Family Wealth & Estate Planning Group.

Jane received her Bachelor of Arts in both English Literature and Economics from Denison University, cum laude. She received her law degree from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law

Jane is a member of the Columbus Bar Association (Estate Planning and Trust Committee and past chair of the Probate Court Committee), the Ohio State Bar Association (member of the Board of Governors Council of Delegates of the Estate Planning, Trust and Probate Law Section), the Columbus Foundation Professional Advisors, the Columbus Downtown Estate Planning Council, the Society of Financial Service Professionals Columbus Chapter (past president and past national board member), and the Catholic Foundation Professional Advisors Group.

Professional Recognition

Jane is a Fellow of The American College of Trust & Estate Counsel (ACTEC) and was selected to the Ohio Super Lawyers magazine as a “Rising Star” list in the January 2009 – January 2013 editions. She has been listed as a “Best Lawyer” in Best Lawyers®, 2019-2024, and recognized by Best Lawyers as the 2024 “Lawyer of the Year” for Closely Held Companies and Family Businesses Law. Jane was listed as Columbus Business First magazine’s ‘Forty Under Forty’ Class of 2014. She has received the Martindale-Hubbell® rating of AV Preeminent®.

Community Involvement

Jane is Chair of the Franklin County Guardianship Services Board, a volunteer of the Legal Aid Society of Columbus, a Lakeside Association vice-chair of the board and chair of the municipal services committee, a member of the Johnson Trust Company Board of Directors, a sustaining member of the Junior League of Columbus, and an active member of St. Agatha Church and School. Jane worked closely with the Ohio Treasurer’s Office to develop Ohio’s Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE) program. Jane coaches cross country and boys basketball for Saint Agatha School.

Personal Interests

Jane resides in Upper Arlington with her husband, Jeff, and two sons. She enjoys cooking, gardening, jogging, summer weekends in Lakeside, Ohio and sunsets in Naples, Florida.
