Mission

For over 55 years, Carlile Patchen & Murphy LLP has been providing legal excellence to businesses, families, and individuals. We value building long-lasting relationships with our clients, and we are dedicated to protecting and preserving what is important to them.

At CPM, we foster collaborative, innovative problem-solving and are structured to leverage the expertise of all our staff in order to provide the individual attention our clients have come to expect. Although each of our practice areas addresses its own unique matters, our clients understand that CPM can support multiple legal issues and serve as a trusted partner through complex business and personal circumstances.

Because attorneys have a special obligation to the administration of justice and stewardship of the law, we encourage our attorneys to pursue service to the bar and teaching/educational opportunities. We also urge our attorneys to develop thought leadership on relevant legal issues and to participate in the affairs of their larger communities.

We protect what’s most important to you.

History

Carlile Patchen & Murphy LLP was established in 1967 by Richard V. Patchen and Denis J. Murphy with offices located at 88 East Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio. Our founding partners provided sophisticated legal representation to Central Ohio businesses and individuals, supporting areas related to entity formation, financing, tax planning, estate planning, and other business transactions. In 1978, Hunt Carlile joined CPM , bringing his expertise in corporate litigation and further strengthening the foundation of the steadily growing firm. Through the late 1970s and 1980s, Carlile Patchen & Murphy LLP developed a reputation as a leading business law firm handling complex business matters for small, mid-sized and large companies in the Columbus region.

Historically, CPM has also boasted a considerable number of committed attorneys who have served the Bar in various leadership positions while also being recognized at the highest levels of service by Martindale Hubbell and other legal referral and ranking agencies. Community engagement and giving is an important part of our practice, since the inception of the program in 1987, Carlile Patchen & Murphy has generously contributed to the CBA Minority Clerkship in the employment of summer clerks. Our attorneys are encouraged to develop lasting relationships like these across our community, helping spread their expert knowledge to those in need.

In June of 2015, Carlile Patchen & Murphy merged with the law firm of Campbell Hornbeck Chilcoat & Veatch and leveraged their expansion by opening a second office in Columbus, located at 535 Metro Place South in Dublin, Ohio. The North-Corridor office allows clients in the increasingly growing area of Central, Ohio to conveniently meet with CPM attorneys based on their needs and/or proximity.

We are proud to carry on a tradition of legal excellence.
