Jane Higgins Marx joined Carlile Patchen & Murphy LLP in August 2000 and practices estate and business planning, probate, probate litigation, business succession planning and elder law. Jane counsels individuals, business owners, executives and caregivers on matters of estate planning, estate and gift taxation, income taxation of trusts and estates, charitable giving, business succession and probate. She provides comprehensive planning for disability, including counseling on special needs and elder law issues. Jane assists executors, trustees, guardians, and other fiduciaries in complying with various legal and fiduciary responsibilities. Jane is the current chair of the CPM’s Family Wealth & Estate Planning Group.
Jane is a member of the Columbus Bar Association (Estate Planning and Trust Committee and past chair of the Probate Court Committee), the Ohio State Bar Association (member of the Board of Governors of the Estate Planning), Trust and Probate Law Section (member Elder Law Section Committee), the Central Ohio Business and Wealth Planning Council (President), the Columbus Foundation Professional Advisors, the Columbus Estate Planning Council, the Society of Financial Service Professionals Columbus Chapter (immediate past president and current national board member), Saint Agatha School Advisory Board and the Catholic Foundation Professional Advisors Group.
Jane is a Fellow of The American College of Trust & Estate Counsel (ACTEC) and was selected to the Ohio Super Lawyers magazine as a “Rising Star” list in the January 2009 – January 2013 editions. She was listed as a “Best Lawyer” in Best Lawyers® and listed in Columbus Business First magazine’s Class of 2014 ‘Forty Under Forty’ Jane was also named a “Top Lawyer” by Columbus C.E.O. magazine, 2013-2015. She has received the Martindale-Hubbell® rating of AV Preeminent®.
Jane is Chair of the Franklin County Guardianship Services Board, a board member, development committee co-chair and volunteer of the Legal Aid Society of Columbus, a sustaining member of the Junior League of Columbus and an active member of St. Agatha Church. Jane worked closely with the Ohio Treasurer’s Office to develop Ohio’s Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE) program.
Jane resides in Upper Arlington with her husband, Jeff, and two sons. She enjoys cooking, gardening, jogging and summer weekends in Lakeside, Ohio.
