Matthew S. Brown Appointed to Ohio Election Integrity Commission

Columbus, Ohio — Carlile Patchen & Murphy LLP announces that Matthew S. Brown has been appointed by the Ohio Speaker of the House to the Ohio Election Integrity Commission for an initial two-year term. His appointment was finalized last week at the Ohio Secretary of State’s office in Columbus. The Commission commences in 2026 after being established as a successor to the Ohio Election Commission by the General Assembly. Background on the Commission’s formation and mandate appears in the Secretary of State’s September 29, 2025 formation notice.

Mr. Brown is a litigation attorney who helps businesses and organizations navigate complex business disputes, focusing on straightforward processes, scheduling discipline, and practical case management. Those skills align with the Commission’s charge to enforce Ohio’s campaign-finance and election-law regulations, reflected in the Secretary of State’s December 23, 2025, leadership update and the Legislative Service Commission’s commission summary.

“I am honored with the opportunity to serve,” Mr. Brown said. “Election rules work best when they’re administered fairly and efficiently. I look forward to working with my follow Commissioners to fulfill the Commission’s mission.”

The Election Integrity Commission replaces the former Ohio Elections Commission effective January 1, 2026. As the new body takes shape, the Secretary of State has outlined early leadership steps, including an interim chair for the initial organizing period and additional appointments by state leaders as required by statute. For external coverage of the commission’s initial composition, see reporting from the Ohio Capital Journal on the commission’s early lineup and local coverage of chair appointments and transitions.

Mr. Brown will serve alongside other recently named members as the Commission establishes procedures and organizes its docket. He continues his litigation practice and his role as chair of the Business Litigation Practice Group at CPM.
