Mr. Brown, Partner and co-chair of the litigation practice group, joined Carlile Patchen & Murphy in 2008 and concentrates his practice on insurance coverage, business litigation, securities, and intellectual property. Matt represents clients in court (including hearings seeking injunctive relief), arbitration, mediation, and various regulatory and administrative proceedings. He has successfully argued cases in the United States Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, numerous Federal District Courts throughout the United States, various Ohio Appellate Courts, and trial courts throughout Ohio.
Formerly employed by one of Ohio’s largest property and casualty insurers, Matt has extensive knowledge of the insurance industry and the impact of coverage. His broad insurance coverage experience ranges from property & casualty, commercial general liability, directors & officers and errors & omissions. His experience has enabled him to become a Certified Specialist in Insurance Coverage Law through the Ohio State Bar Association (OSBA). He is licensed to practice in Ohio, Michigan, and the United States District Courts for the Southern District of Ohio, Northern District of Ohio, and Western District of Michigan.
Matt received his undergraduate degree (B.S.) in Actuarial Science from Bowling Green State University in 1994. He received his law degree (J.D.) from The University of Toledo, College of Law in 2004.
Mr. Brown is a member of the Columbus Bar Association, the Ohio State Bar Associations, and the International Association of Defense Counsel.

Matt was recognized as a “Rising Star” in Ohio Super Lawyers magazine’s January (2009, 2010, and 2014), in addition to the “Certified Specialist” recognition (2016).
Matt is a lifelong resident of Ohio and is active in numerous community organizations in Pickerington. He has volunteered as a baseball and soccer coach for Pickerington’s youth organizations and as a coach and referee for “Upward Basketball”. He has served as the President of the Pickerington High School Central Music Boosters and was on the Board of Directors for the Pickerington Education Foundation. Matt has been featured as a guest author in Pickerington Magazine’s “Legal Forum” column. He has been a legal advisor for the Pickerington High School Central Mock Trial team.
